Job description

Advice Space is a charity that provides free and independent information and advice to help people resolve their problems, including benefits, debt, employment, housing and more.  


Formerly Citizens Advice Belfast, we have been providing a high-quality service in Northern Ireland for more than 50 years, supporting clients and speaking up for them where we can. We also work with lots of other charities developing and delivering advice to their service users.


Advice Space is a member of Advice NI which means we have access to the services, resources and support provided by them but as an independent charity, we’re responsible for running our own affairs within agreed standards.


We are looking for a new Chair to lead our Board of Trustees to ensure that the trustee board provides long term strategic management of the organisation. The role of Chair of Trustees will include supervision of the Chief Officer. 


You’ll need to: 

be available to attend at least ten evening meetings each year of our Trustee Board.


be available to meet with the Chief Officer of the charity monthly at a mutually convenient time 


have a willingness to work as a team and to lead a team 


lead discussions that relate to the running of the organisation 

act in the interests of Advice Space and that of its staff and clients 


have good independent judgement and knowledge to help lead our charity. 

on occasion, and with full briefing, act as a spokesperson for the charity, at events or when speaking to the media.

Experience of the role of trustee and understanding of third sector will be an advantage. We are looking for people with a wide variety of skills and a diversity of background and experiences. 


The post of trustee is a voluntary one, but all reasonable expenses are reimbursed. The role will provide you with a great deal of experience and satisfaction, the opportunity to develop your skills and utilise your expertise and knowledge.
