Job description

About Advice Space

At Advice Space we’re all about people getting the right advice and support when they need it. We used to be called Citizens Advice Belfast and we were set up as a charity in 1964. We support our clients by delivering high quality advice services, by acting as a voice where we can, and we work in partnership with a number of other charities to develop and deliver advice services on their behalf.

Why Advice Space?

We strongly believe in an inclusive and supportive work culture. We recognise the importance of a good work-life balance and the need for a fulfilling and rewarding career. We understand the changing demands of life and the need for flexibility in working arrangements to meet these demands. Advice Space is an equal opportunity employer and as such we will consider all qualified applicants regardless of gender, race, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

Why you should apply?

Are you experienced in working with volunteers? Are you looking for an opportunity that offers you a flexible work solution and one that will take your career to the next level of responsibility? Would you like to join a dynamic, growing organisation where you can really make an impact, not just on the company but to improve the lives of people in Northern Ireland?

Key duties and essentials

We are looking for a passionate and motivated Volunteer Manager. You should be imaginative in how you recruit and in developing new volunteer roles that will support us in providing a great service for our clients. You will work closely with the HR Manager in the onboarding experience and with the Advice Service Team Leader. You will be the first point of contact for anything volunteer related and you will always drive a positive experience.

We see the focus of this post being on volunteer recruitment. The successful person will not shy away from using all types of media to put becoming an Advice Space volunteer out there. Your success is the organisation’s success.

It is important that you have experience of coordination. We are a big operation, pre pandemic we operated with 40 volunteers, so as you get to know us and our work it’s important that you understand where volunteers are needed.

Supporting volunteers, managing issues, and maintaining their motivation is imperative in retention. The longer a volunteer stays with us, the more experience they get – that helps our clients and if the volunteer secures employment because of the time they spent with us it’s a win win situation for us all.

Communication is key both for the work that you will be doing externally for recruitment and internally keeping volunteers informed about what’s going on and letting paid staff know how your work in helping them is going.

Keeping the profile of Advice Space high is really important to us and our future ambitions. We would want you to look out for ways to recognise the contributions that our volunteers make. We hold Investing in Volunteers standard and would like to continue to achieve recognition awards where we can and you will lead on this. Another way we can do this is by measuring impacts and making sure that information gets shown to the right people.

Watching out for and applying for grants to meet volunteer costs – expenses and training is essential.

We want you to develop a Volunteering Strategy that will see us through the next two years.

Finally, its essential that we embed best practice in volunteer management and that’s why your experience is important to us.

And the rest....

•Ability to commit to, and work within aims, principles and policies of Advice Space.

•A good, up to date understanding of equality and diversity and its application to volunteers and their development.

•Ability to monitor and maintain own standards.

Contract: 1-year Fixed Term in the first instance, part-time

Hours: 14 hours per week

Location: Flexible across 6 sites in Belfast
